The Hungarian Institute for Culture and Arts was established in
1951 as a background Institute for the Ministry of Education and
Culture. Now it's the supervisory body of the Ministry.
It has 90 employees, and it is connected to thousands of local
cultural institutions around Hungary.
Mission of the
Institute:
- In order to
preserve and transmit national values the Institute provides
advice and service concerning the profession, organize research
and education, and provides general regional cultural duties.
The Institute operates a bibliotheque and a national information
system, operates documentation and database.
- In order to
develop visual culture and artistic activities, the Institute
gives expert opinion and manages projects in the field of fine
and applied arts and photography, while it provides documentation
and research on contemporary art.
The activities
of the Institute include:
- adult training;
- amateur arts and talent care;
- research;
- facilitating the cultural life of national minorities in Hungary;
- organizing and promoting community development activities
and programs;
- running of the Information Centre.
The Institute is involved in the organization of hundreds of
exhibitions, talent search events and vocational conferences
every year. Our research activities investigate Hungarian cultural
consumer habits, the issues of cultural industries, cultural
poverty and social capital and the attitudes of cultural professionals.
